So many people! The air’s humid on the street but inside the gelato bar the people pushing for a glimpse of the desserts in the glass display make it even steamier.
I can’t believe that after my recent ruminations over ice cream flavours I’m now being offered peanut butter with ginger bread, gianduja, coconut pandan and banana bread flavours. Probably more, if could just see over all the shoulders.
Oh. Wow. White peach and lavender? You can eat lavender?
Should I ask for a taste before buying a scoop? Nah… dive on in!
Carrying off my cup with a scoop of peanut-butter-ginger-bread up high and white-peach-lavender below.
Scrape off a smear of peanut butter… it tastes fantastic, not too nutty with the sweet biscuit lifting it up.
I have high hopes for lavender!
Get a spoonful of the pale purple… and in it goes!
Very smooth texture and yes, it tastes very vaguely of peach… I move it across my tongue til it melts… still vague, pleasant-enough peach taste… huh… swallow…
Oh. Uh. Lavender aftertaste.
Um.
Try it again. Peach, then lavender… guess that’s why they named it in that order…
It’s like I got scented handwash in my mouth.
I finish all the peanut butter. I look at the melting scoop of peach lavender.
I am the last person in the world to waste food… especially iced confectionery on a hot night… but into the bin it goes.
