Ul Boov

Trying to steady my hand while chopping the potatoes. I’m so hungry I’m dizzy. This is not good.

Mrs Corridor says the soup is about an hour away. Kitchen scouting time.

Hmm, sick of bread… don’t feel like fruit… Hmm, what about these large oblong-shaped bread stick looking things?

Poke. They are rock solid. Mrs Corridor says they got given them during the Tsagaan Sar festival a few weeks ago. They’re shoe-sole shaped biscuit cake things that are put into big piles and then distributed. They haven’t tried them yet.

Well, I will give it a go!

Plonk one on the chopping board and find a knife to slice. Even though it’s really hard it cuts quite well… though it crumbles very easily… The inside is dry and crumby, and I can see darker streaks of butter through it.

In it goes… ah, it tastes just like shortbread… but better! Not as dry, the fat moistens it. It’s sweet and buttery. A bready biscuit.

Cut it up and offer it around. It’s so more-ish, it’s hard not to eat too much!

And there are still several there… oh dear…  Ul boov are going to be hard to resist!
