Spinach and Chickpea Soup

Poke my head in the fridge. Do I feel like eggs on toast? Not really. Then the fridge can’t help me.

Stick my head in the cupboard. Soup it is. May as well try my latest ‘it was on special’ purchase.

It’s one of those soups that come in a bowl that you put directly in the microwave. I follow the instructions and feel very ashamed at the amount of waste my lifestyle produces.

It comes out looking like brown-green swamp water. I look at the picture on the packet. While they have rather sneakily not included a photo of the actual soup they have painted a lot of dull-green around so I suppose I should have been prepared.

I sit down and start spooning it in.

No good. It’s pretty much just a few too-soft chickpeas floating in sludge. The sludge itself is simultaneously too peppery and too flavourless.

I think about not eating it. But then I’d be adding all that plastic rubbish to the world for nothing.

I finish it. There are much better tinned soups out there.
