Pascall Eclairs

The receptionist at the smash repairs centre finishes off her Big Mac. She’s making me hungrier and I was already pretty peckish.

It’s been a day of missing trains and looking for buses and running down streets trying to make appointments on time. It’s good to be sitting here finally getting our car back, but why am I so nervous about driving it home? It’s not like I was the one that had the accident.

Sigh. Rummage in bag to see if there is any food hiding there.

Um, where is my book?

Turn bag nearly inside out. The book I was reading is gone. More precisely, the book that was on loan to me so I could review it is gone.

I remember seeing it next to my bag at the bakery. I remember thinking “Ooo, don’t forget the book.” But did I actually pick it up?

Apparently not.

Found a wrapped lolly in the book hunt. Got it free at work. The colour is coming off the wrapper, it’s been in there that long.

Don’t care, hungry and upset.

Unwrap. The caramel doesn’t stick to the foil as much as you’d expect in this heat;  comes away easily.

Chuck in the mouth. Chomp down. The entire chocolate centre abruptly squirts out and gets swallowed. My chocolate eclair became a regular caramel pretty darn quickly.

Now my back teeth are stuck together.

Now I remember the dentist telling me yesterday my tooth was broken. I shouldn’t be eating anything remotely this chewy.

I chew. And chew. Praise the Lord, the caramel begins to come out of my teeth and floats in my mouth in chunks.

Then it’s over.

That did not even remotely begin to make up for a horrible day, but at least I’ve got a bit of extra sugary bravado for the drive home.

“It’s ready!” The mechanic dangles the keys.

Please God don’t let me have an accident.

He doesn’t.
