Soooo tiiiiiired… Right leg, left leg, right leg, left leg, kept it going…
Being a bridesmaid is exhausting work. Early morning start, late night finish, endless smiles for the crazy photographer, removal of scores of bobby pins from stiffened curled hair… It’s the day after I feel like I was run over rather than had the pleasure of witness the promises of friends.
But life goes on and so does the grocery shopping.
Chocolate is on special! The whole aisle! It’s a mother’s day miracle!
What to choose, oh what to choose… Hmm, calorie-reduced Mars bar? Okay, sure, sounds good for a buck.
Groceries away, television on, red wrapping off the chocolate bar.
It smells like dark chocolate, bitter. Don’t remember if that’s how the regular Mars smells. The bar is smaller that the original (what a revolutionary way to reduce calories), narrower and lighter.
Bite. It gives easily, the nougat layer softer and squishier. It feels alright, but I like it better with the stiff substantial firmness.
The nougat is not only too fluffy but it’s kind of tasteless. There’s no malty flavour. It’s just there keeping the chocolate and caramel company.
The chocolate is sugary with a slight grit, no milky creaminess.
The caramel seems the same as always… nibble some alone just to check… yup, perhaps a little less bite than usual but mostly identical.
Overall though… Where’s the richness? The punch? This bar is more sugary sweet than powerful… When I eat a Mars bar I want to sink into the intense heaviness, not bob around on some saccharine ocean.
Not that I’m not going to eat it… sugar is still tasty, nomnom…
Finally, with only the nub of the bar left the cumulative effect of the caramel becomes involving, but the nougat is still tasteless. If I’d wanted caramel and chocolate I would have bought a Caramello Koala: they were on sale too and their chocolate is much nicer.
However, even a light Mars red does seem to kick me into the work and play of the rest of the day!
