The bag of dark chocolate-covered licorice is passed around the table. I take one or two. All the boys take handfuls and begin tossing them into their mouths, eating quickly and reaching out for more.
What do they know that I don’t?
Licorice is a recent like for me… don’t think I’m ready to fight hungry males nearly double my body weight for it. Better eat what I have before someone else eyes it off.
I nibble the edge of one bullet. The chocolate is fairly unremarkable with little taste. Well, it is Black & Gold brand so I can’t expect much more than that: it’s actually fairly pleasant for the price. Haven’t hit any licorice yet.
Bite it in half and there’s a chewy centre. It seems more like a black jelly baby covered in chocolate rather than licorice.
Try sucking the other half… nope, chewing is much more effective in releasing flavour.
I eat my second in two halves, chewing, while the boys exclaim their satisfaction.
Must be a guy thing.
