Kimbap

The cafeteria lunch comes with a smaller bowl with two pieces of bread and two pieces of some kind of sushi. Yay!

“I love sushi!” I say to the student across from me.

“It’s Korean sushi,” says she.

Ah, yes, Mongolia and Korea. I’ve seen a lot of Korean products here, and some of my students speak much better Korean than English. There are Korean restaurants all across Ulaanbaatar and now we’re eating Korean in the cafeteria.

Unlike normal futomaki where the seaweed is wrapped around the outside only, these kimbap have the seaweed sheet spiralled right through. The fillings seem to be carrot, egg, pickled vegetable, and some kind of processed salami.

They’re quite small, each one mouthful, which won’t give me much to savour but oh well!

Mmm… Just like regular sushi, but with no hint of sweetness in the rice. All is normal apart from the chew and slight meaty spice of the salami.

I like salami in sushi! Much better than sun-dried tomato!

And the other one.

All gone. Sadly. I wonder if The Husband would trade his sushi for my bread…

He pops one into his mouth, swallows, and there goes the last one. Too bad.
