Green Apple Mentos Minis

I’m good at buying food for meetings.  I’ve got the rules all sorted.

  1. There must be Tim Tams.
  2. Get wrapped lollies; hygienic and you can use the leftovers at the next meeting.
  3. Make sure there is at least one low-calorie option.
  4. Don’t buy anything you’ll be tempted to eat.

I feel un-Australian even having these thoughts. Who sits around thinking about their own awesome rules?

On the other hand I did win an iPhone for the ‘using food incentives to get your colleagues to update the website’ idea so surely that’s an unbiased indicator that I actually am good at business food?

Oh, who knows. Who cares! But people were happy to see these mentos minis. And I lasted all four sessions without snacking. Thanks rule four.

But now… I wonder… dare I let myself try a good meeting food? What if I get hooked?

Turning the little wrapped cylinder over and over. They’re low calorie. It wouldn’t be much… they’re small!

Besides, perhaps they were gross and no-one told me? My meetings rely on attracting people with tastiness! I can’t risk using poor bait.

Okay, what flavour? Green apple, at least that’s a bit unusual.

Ripping the paper down the side to get a clean run at the foil.

Wow, these mentos are much bigger than the package implied! How on earth did they get the cylinder to look that narrow? It’s like Mary Poppins’ bag!

Sniff. No scent. Just like a stack of five cent coins in green tablet form.

Lick. Nada.

All in and instinctive chew and mmm! Beneath the thin hard exterior it’s soft and easy to chew. A bit moist. It’s in my teeth crevices, but seems to be melting quickly away so there’s no need to pick it out.

I guess it does take like apple… but not like real apple… kind of like the idea of apple if you read about it in a science textbook. It’s strongly distilled, like juice, with a touch too much sweetness.

I’ll suck this one. The shell doesn’t have too much flavour, it’s the inside muted. The smoothness starts to come away, first getting rough then suddenly all gone until it’s only the more intense innards swirling on my tongue.

It takes a good time to suck down and away, it’s not gone in a moment. But the taste was more enjoyable when chewed. Better to go with a bang than quietly!

Not bad: good enough to attract my colleagues but not so good that I won’t be able to withstand! The rules have guided me well.
