The kids at school used to eat these and I would watch, wondering what it was like to have parents that let you buy recess from the tuckshop.
And now, watching Masterchef, I will know!
Tearing open the blue wrapper, my nose is hit with the smell of toasted coconut. The long bar has been coated in chocolate and rolled in desiccated coconut. Narrow, normal looking… time to bite in!
Oh, it’s really chewy and solid! I wasn’t expecting that. The chocolate is covering a firm layer of peanut nougat that takes some effort to bite off.
The chocolate is milky with its unique afterwarmth, the nougat sweet and marshmallow-like with definite peanut. The coconut is dry but that’s as it should be, and it adds flavour to the snack.
The nougat is just soo… tough. Solid. Work! Dessert shouldn’t be so much effort to chew!
After years of wondering the summer rolls hasn’t lived up to what I thought it would be, but it’s not bad either. Perhaps what works for school children does not for adults!

Haha I was thinking of childhood foods today. Some things just don’t seem to live up to their expectations, perhaps because as adults our expectations seems to have heightened far more than when we were kids.
ohhhhhhhh I used to LOVE these as a kid!!
Brings back so many memories!
