Dried Cranberries

Okay, I need something to flavour this porridge. Sultanas are okay but I’m getting sick of them and they just aren’t quite enough.

What else does Mrs Corridor have stashed away here?

Hmm… Dried cranberries… wow, imported from America. I don’t want to eat up all her expensive food…

But I do need to get this porridge down.

Opening the bag. It looks like a trove of red ruby halves, each the size of my thumbnail. The outer side is slightly darker, and the inner side is concave from the removal of the seed.

Pop one on in.

It’s sweet… the skin is slightly tougher than the softer innards… Very sweet… they’ve added sugar according to the packet… but with a pleasant tang at the end…

Pour some on my porridge and stirstirstir. Try a mouthful.

Yup, the taste of the cranberry is robust enough to conquer the watery porridge.

Yay!

Too bad they aren’t as healthy or cheap as the sultanas. But maybe every couple of days…

Dried cranberries are an interesting ingredient. I think they would be a good addition to friands.

Yes, I think that’s true! They would add a little hint of moisture to a friand (my beef with friands is always how dry they often are). The packet actually had a recipe for pound cake so same principle.
