Couscous Beetroot Slice

Grargle. Murgle.

Oh, shut up stomach and wait til we get to the bus stop.

Grumurgle.

Right! Sit down, drop bag, hurriedly unwrap paper packaging.

For an all-vegan cafe you’d think they’d try and cut down on wasteful wrappings. No time to ponder that. Attack lunch!

Get a mouthful before even bothering to examine my purchase. The slice is soft and crumbles easily into moist segments in my mouth. An occasional chewy bit with a tomato flavour. Overall it tastes like lemon and beetroot, sweet and sour and vinegar.

Swallow. Okay, slow down. Appreciate the food. It’s a square of deep purple slice. It sheds tiny bits of shredded beetroot and stained semolina but doesn’t leave my fingers coloured. Decent texture, easy to eat in a hurry.

Perhaps a bit too much lemon and vinegar. It would be nice if it tasted even stronger of beetroot, or if the sun-dried tomato could shine through a bit more. Maybe if it were warmed, though the cool wetness is appreciated since I sure am thirsty. Should have bought a drink too.

Stomach does not care. Trivialities. Stomach says keepeatingkeepeatingkeepeating.

You got it.
