The cranberries are floating in ‘fruit juice’, according to the label.
Stick my finger in. Lick it. Apple juice. Well, I’m not here to try apple juice. Drain it down the sink.
I thought the cranberries would be beautifully red. In the picture they’re whole and bright as rubies. In reality they’re sliced and brown-maroon.
The slices have holes in the middle where I guess seeds once were.
The berries’ skin is firm but yielding when bitten. The innards are soft and wet but not slimy.
They’re not as tart as I had feared. They do have bite, but tang rather than pucker, with an accompanying apple-sweetness hanging in the background.
Lurking in the residual juice at the bottom of the container are the seeds. They’re tiny magenta things, they crunch satisfyingly. Good contrast with the soft fruit.
Maybe instead of eating the second sealed portion plain, like this one, I could add them to cereal… or yoghurt… hmm…
