Blueberry Intense Chocolate

I can’t believe it took us so long to open this bar of chocolate! I suppose we were out of the country for nearly five weeks… but still, blueberries! And chocolate!

As soon as I break the foil a sweet berry aroma reaches my nose.

Wow, chocolate and blueberries together smell soooo goooood…

All I can think of for a moment is blueberry picking in the hot summer sun, reaching deep into the bush for the huge plump berries left behind by less discerning pickers… the danish-like scent of midday-warm blueberries… the fresh bursting taste as I make the most of the all-you-can-eat-for-free rule…

Poor confectionery, you may smell delicious but how will you ever compare to a berry picked mere moments ago?

Though I admit the addition of chocolate should help.

If I can ever bring myself to eat it! If I eat it the smell will be over and I could smell this forever… perhaps this is what heaven will smell like…

Okay, get a grip, you can’t sit here sniffing for the rest of the night. Tasting time.

Snap it in half… oh, there’s little white bits inside… check the packet, and it says blueberry and almonds down the side. Suddenly very doubtful. Why add almonds unless the blueberry taste wasn’t enough to carry it through?

Touching the chocolate warms it enough so that it sticks to my fingers. Now I’ve got no choice but to start eating!

Chocolate heat spreads across my tongue. It’s not milk chocolate, the dark bitter notes sitting alongside sweetness.

The almonds seem to add texture more than taste, little crunches in the soft brown.

And the blueberry is delivered in dried-fruit-jelly-lolly fragments, adding chew to the snap and melt.

Sucking a corner. Mostly just tastes like dark chocolate, until it melts away to leave me sucking the blueberry jelly, giving me an intense sugary hit. Then even the blueberry is gone and I’m left with a scattering of nut shards.

Kind of fun to enjoy in components, but the chocolate stage lasts a little long compared to the fruit. It’s the same if I crunch it quickly: the bitter chocolate is a little too much for the blueberry to register.

But taking bigger bits and flooding my tongue seems to improve it further.

But, of course, it’s tasty! How could it not be? The Husband finds it so irresistible that he goes back for seconds. I’m a bit less lyrical but this is a combo that works.
