Apricot

I said I like dried fruit better than fresh, but I don’t really like dried apricot. I’ll eat it, but it’s so strong.

I stroke the small apricot. Why am I about to eat something that feels like a kitten?

It cuts very easily, nearly falls into halves without my help. The flesh around the kernel looks a bit dry so I trim a bit while avoiding those parts.

Got myself a decent sliver. I smell it. Smells like apricot. Amazing.

Taste just the flesh without skin. It’s not too bad! The mildness makes it better than the dried version. The texture is nice too, soft without being squishy. Kind of sweet but not too much.

Try some with skin. The skin doesn’t add anything to the experience, maybe even takes away from the flavour.

I munch around the skin, leaving little eaten-out strips on the plate. I can see myself eating more baked apricot desserts: a bit of sugar and ice cream would really make it tasty (what don’t those help?).

Well, doesn’t come close to apples, pears and bananas but not too bad.

Rating: ★★☆☆☆

Specifics: fresh apricot bought from an independent grocer in Macquarie Fields
