“Would you please eat this chocolate soon?” The Husband asks, showing me the nearly-empty packet. “It’s so tasty it’s hard for me not to finish it.”
It didn’t take him long to learn that the new open-to-new-foods me needs to be given a taste of everything. So nice of him to resist to finish off something he finds so tasty! And The Husband is so picky, this is a great compliment to the chocolate.
One I shall honour by finishing the block!
Breaking off a square. My fingers instantly take on the smell of dark cocoa. Aww, cute, each piece has the brand’s elephant logo embossed onto it!
Breathe in the aroma. The smell is 95% chocolate but there is an extra sweet note in the air that there is something else in the bar… not a raspberry smell, just a sugary hint.
Bite. It seems to break apart in crumbles in my mouth rather than squash or melt like most chocolate. There are little crunchy bits, I don’t know what they are. Nuts? That should be on the pack. Odd.
It is real, bitter, earthy chocolate. Sucking the next mouthful, looking for raspberry, something… nope, just the dark chocolate.
The chocolate is very glossy, it doesn’t warm and soften between my fingers.
Where’s the pack, what’s in this stuff? Hmm.. raspberry puree, apple juice and pineapple fibre? Okie-dokie then.
Munch on the elephant’s head and ponder.
Nope, it tastes like plain old dark chocolate to me. No fruit flavours anywhere.
But once I have the taste of chocolate in my mouth, I can’t quite give the last square up…
