Originally from Wollongong, Australia, I studied at the University of Wollongong, completing a Bachelor of Arts (Philosophy) in 1999, and a Bachelor of Creative Arts with Honours First Class (Creative Writing) in 2001. Following a brief stint in Guatemala in 2002, I returned to obtain my Certificate III (Fitness), before undertaking an exciting year of work in a Fish & Chip shop in 2003, when I also commenced studying Latin.
In 2004, I moved to Sydney, and started studying at Moore Theological College in the graduate entry B. Divinity program. In 2006 I completed a Graduate Diploma in Humanities (Classical Languages) from the University of New England, a diploma largely responsible for my latin skills. In 2007, I completed the final year of my BD program at Moore College. I have subsequently completed further studies, including a Graduate Certificate in Arts (Ancient World Studies) at the University of Sydney, and in 2010 completed an MTh at Moore College (results pending).
In the last few years I have developed a strong and active interest in issues of teaching, pedagogy, and second language acquisition, as well as a keen interest in oral communication in Latin and Ancient Greek. I am working towards developing both my own competencies in this area, and materials for others to do so.
My language background includes a number of years of studying Latin, Ancient Greek (primarily Koine, but some Classical), Classical Hebrew, and a small amount of Mandarin, German, and Scottish Gaelic. All of these are ongoing tasks (though some receive a higher focus than others).
My research interests lie primarily in New Testament Studies, Greek and Latin patristics, Greek and Latin literature, and Ethics. In 2001 I wrote a minor thesis on the themes of Will & Destiny in the poetry of Velimir Khlebnikov, and in 2007 a study of the exhortations to martyrdom in the writings of St. Cyprian of Carthage. My 2010 MTh thesis examines pro-Nicene hermeutical techniques in the preaching of John Chrysostom.
